Stupid question: why do we call a grid of numbers or colours two dimensional? Don't the values in the cells make it three dimensional?

A reminder that we were almost on the timeline where nintendo released a knitting machine peripheral for the NES. They did make a prototype, things could have been very different if it had reached production.

After some days work, I finally made my first unassisted warp, and got it on the loom and threaded up - 189 ends. It seems I had only one small mistake in the threading, just had to swap two threads. Can't wait to explore some lift patterns with this ! #weaving

Submitting to an academic conference and once more am completely amazed that people who call themselves academic technologists use LaTeX to make PDFs to communicate their research. This is by far the worst widely-adopted software I've ever used, and I really hope I don't ever use it again. Awful nonsense, which I think is only still in use for the purposes of gatekeeping other disciplines away from interacting with computer science. #rant

Anthropic are now casting live coders for ad campaigns showing how great Claude is for pushing beyond their capabilities. Not sure it's quite there yet..

The events list on https://algorave.com was looking dead so I searched the #algorave tag on instagram and added some recent/upcoming ones I could find.. there were *loads*, it's a bit overwhelming. I spent an hour adding some but so much missing. It would be lovely to have something like a complete list of events but having someone search around while fiddling with a dodgy wordpress event plugin is not the way.. any ideas/volunteers ??

I really wish there was a culture in free/open source software of actually telling the person who made the thing when you do something good/interesting/cool/weird with it, used it in a workshop/teaching. It's super nice+motivating when I hear about tidal being used on a course or something, but it's generally only by chance.
I guess it's another case of people adopting the at-a-distance customer-supplier relationship of commercial/proprietary software, when free/open source _should_ take a friendlier approach
